Eight SCW students place at state track meet
This past Friday and Saturday, members of the St. Charles West track team headed to Jefferson City to compete in the MSHSAA state championship for classes 3-5. With the results of each member’s sectional performance looking confident, the Warriors had high expectations for themselves going into the state competition.
On the boy’s side, two notable names stuck out at the meet. Junior James Wortham managed to place 5th overall in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:36.03 and 7th overall in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:22.71. Additionally, senior Braden Goellner won 1st place overall in the high jump with a height of 2.11 meters (in feet, this equates to six feet 11 inches). Braden Goellner’s score also ties with the current St. Charles West school record.
On the girl’s team, multiple names managed to place. Senior Lily Jackson placed 3rd overall in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.08 and 1st place overall in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:10.99. Jackson also participated in the 4×800 race with sophomores Alivia Zeier and Avery Jackson and freshman Genna Wacker (alternate: Vivian Jones), which earned 6th place overall. In addition, senior Hannah Myers placed 8th overall in the All-State triple jump and 13th overall in the high jump. Concluding the results for the girls, senior Ella Nichols placed 5th overall in the Class 3 pole vault.
The whole team has put in a tremendous amount of effort this school year into the success of their team. Congratulations to the state placers and the boys and girls’ track teams as a whole!
