SCW football wins first conference matchup against Winfield
On Friday, September 16th, the St. Charles West football team faced the Winfield High School Warriors in the West Warrior’s first conference matchup. Prior to the game, the record for the SCW Warriors was 2-1, with their one loss recorded against St. Dominic High School in August. For Winfield, their record stood at 0-3, leading the team to fight for their first win.
The game started scoreless, with both teams using effective offense and defense to hold the first quarter to a scoreless game. In the second quarter, junior Jack Anzalone ran for eight yards for a touchdown, with junior Ryan Beer with the extra point. Additionally, senior Jacob Kirt ran for 26 yards for a touchdown, making the score 15-0 with a two point conversion. Throughout the rest of the game, the Winfield Warriors would get three touchdowns in total. However, St. Charles West senior Jacob Kirt and junior Jack Anzalone would each score three touchdowns to help St. Charles West win the game. The final score was 43-21, a hard fought battle for both teams.
