A very well known Halloween candy that may be the most controversial. According to Better Homes and Gardens, candy corn was invented in the 1880s and is a mixture of sugar, fondant, corn syrup, vanilla flavor, and marshmallow creme. They are covered with an edible wax which gives it a shiny appearance.
Originally candy corn was known as Chicken Feed and had a rooster logo making it easy to recognize. It also has its own national day, October 30th. It also has a long shelf life and is even a healthier candy option because it is fat free. This could be why more than 9 billion pieces of candy corn is produced every year.
