Students at our rival school, St Charles High, have a learning opportunity that is innovative and open to students here at St. Charles West as well.
The Career Pathway to Teaching course prepares inspired individuals to get into classrooms and experience hands-on learning opportunities for a career in childhood education. By being sent into their placement classroom, getting to assist teachers, and getting to teach their own lesson by themselves students get a glimpse into the possibilities of being a teacher or working in the education field. The class gets to take a unique field trip to the first public kindergarten in the United States. During their time in this class, they will experience an “8-10 week observations and the Pre Profession Certification test at the end that can go on a student’s resume. I also think anyone who could be interested in a career working with children, but maybe not teaching, could still take this course to learn more about how children learn and grow.” said Mrs. Munzer, a St Charles High FACS teacher.
Only a couple of West students go over each semester/year, because some students are not aware of this learning opportunity. St. Charles West student Claire Horstmann is currently enrolled in this course, and drives over in time for their class, then returns after it’s finished. “It makes me aware of all the different things that come with being a teacher, not just the surface things. It really makes being a teacher all the more meaningful.” said Horstmann.
If you are interested in being a future educator or working with children. this class will be helpful for you to prepare and give you personal experience in this field. Make sure to get in touch with your counselor and explore this option.
