Cross Country gains success at first meet of the year
On Tuesday, August 30th, the St. Charles West varsity cross country team debuted the 2022-2023 runners at the Fleet Feet Arnold race in Arnold, Missouri. The team has been practicing for the last three weeks, honing in their long distance skills and working on getting faster.
Last year, the girl’s cross country team made it to state in Columbia, Missouri and managed to place second under the direction of longtime coach Angela Poindexter. Both boys and girl’s teams managed to place first in the GAC North during the 2021 season, a huge feat for both teams.
This year, the team has been putting an extreme amount of effort into the program as a whole. Their practices have consisted of long workouts, running, and conditioning: all to make them better runners.
Their hard work was put to the test on Tuesday against various schools in the St. Louis area. During the race, St. Charles West senior James Wortham made quite the season debut with a second place placement overall in the varsity race. In addition, junior Avery Jackson also placed 23rd in the varsity girl’s race: an impressive feat on a debut race.
Overall, the team did not place due to lack of runners, but allowed for more experience in a race towards the freshmen. Congratulations to the team as a whole for their efforts, and congratulations to Avery and James for their hard work!
