Tyler Prize

Tyler Prize has been in Short Film with Mr. Jackson all four years of high school. Tyler is the first person to do this in SCW history! “I love film because I think it’s the perfect form of storytelling. I think the culture and history of it make it super interesting to learn about and I like the process of artistic creation,” said Prize, “My favorite short film I’ve made is called ‘The Corrupt, the Greedy, and the Wicked’ and it is a western shootout satire.” Tyler has made about 36 films and many friends in the four years he has taken the class.

“It’s been really cool from his freshman year to his senior year, just seeing his love and knowledge and wisdom of filmmaking and seeing that in the projects he’s created. He’s a very creative young man and puts a lot of thought and effort into his work and his videos usually show that.” said Mr. Jackson.

Throughout his time at SCW, Tyler has been involved in the SCW theater program, an active member of STUCO, and part of the broadcast team. He has also played golf all four years even though he didn’t like it that

much when he started. “My dad forced me to play when I was like 9, but it wasn’t until high school when I really started enjoying it,” said Prize. The golf team has been one of his favorite things about West and he will miss it when he graduates. “It’s a sport that makes sense for me, it’s time consuming but very rewarding when you’re thoughtful about it,” said Prize. John Howle has been Tyler’s teammate throughout all of high school and says “he always brings a different perspective to things. I like the way he plays golf because he’s always very calm, cool, and collected which I admire.”

After he graduates, Tyler plans to go to Mizzou and major in political science and minor in film. He plans to pursue a career in law. “I like proving points and I have a fascination with using loopholes and things like that to my advantage, which I like to think will come up in law,” said Prize. Good luck at Mizzou, Tyler! St. Charles West will miss your short films and sarcastic humor.
