“I think it’s a fun rivalry, so I’m excited for the competitiveness of the game and the energy of the student sections. I’m also excited to see my friends that go to West”

This past Friday night (10/15), the St. Charles West Warriors took on the St. Charles High Pirates at Jim Rash Stadium/Jim Williams Field for both teams’ rivalry game of the year.  After a decisive and hard fought match for both teams, the Warriors came up on top with a score of 33-22, the 16th win in a row for the Warriors.

The Warriors had been preparing for this game all year, however most can be seen confident with the victory.  This game means a lot to both teams, and with St. Charles High’s 100th Anniversary of football this year, it will surely be a game in history.  Some of our varsity football players were able to answer a few questions before the game, and what they think the team could work on for the big game and their reactions to the win.

“I think that we need to work on defending the pass”, says Erik Sullivan, junior and right guard on the Warrior’s varsity football team.

“If we can improve our pass and defense, I feel like the High game will be a breeze”, says varsity center Brayden Miller, “Our offense and defense will be able to handle them with ease”

After the game, junior Daine Taylor said, “After beating High, I was relieved not to be the team to lose to High.  However, I never had any doubt over it, next year is my senior year and we play High at home, so hopefully we keep the streak for another year”.

Not only is this rivalry important to both football teams, it also signifies a sense of comradery but also rivalry between both student sections.  The students at both schools have attended Jefferson Intermediate School and Hardin Middle School together, so this can be seen as a reunion to students.

“I love the competition between the schools”, says Eli Chowning, a sophomore at St. Charles West.

“I think it’s a fun rivalry, so I’m excited for the competitiveness of the game and the energy of the student sections.  I’m also excited to see my friends that go to West”, says junior Taylor Birkenmeier.

“I love that we can still be connected with friends some of us have at High.  This has been the game everyone has been waiting for”, says junior Katie Powell at St. Charles West.
