The Grammys Recap

The Grammy’s from 2019.

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards were last Sunday, April 3rd. Plenty of celebrities who sported their wacky (but sometimes cool) outfits (go check out the What’s Hot, What’s Not Article), and a fun night for musicians to celebrate the past year. Unlike the Oscars, there was no host getting slapped in the face. However, Sunday night was still enjoyable for many, and the winners were all very deserving.

Jon Batiste was the biggest winner of the night, as he took home five trophies. The two most notable wins were Album of the Year for his project We Are and Best Music Video for his song Freedom. Olivia Rodrigo won Best New Artist and Best Pop Solo Performance for her chart-topping single drivers license. The duo of Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars won three awards, two of which being Best Record and Song of the year for their single Leave the Door Open. Medicine at Midnight by the Foo Fighters took home Best Rock Album, Heaux Tales by Jazmine Sullivan won Best R&B Album, and Call Me If You Get Lost by Tyler, the Creator won Best Rap Album. Doja Cat and SZA won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their Billboard No. 1 single Kiss Me More. Kanye West took home two Grammys for two singles off his album Donda, being Jail winning Rap Song of the Year, and Hurricane winning Best Melodic Rap Performance. Several artists performed throughout the show as well. Nas, Chris Stapleton, and Silk Sonic all performed some of their hits, and Jon Batiste sung his Award-winning song, Freedom. Batiste seemed to have fun with their performance, as both he and the background dancers all ran into the crowd of celebrities, dancing with the guests. Batiste also closed out his performance on top of the table Billie Eilish was sitting at, telling the viewers at home to, “Love Yourself”.

Despite the Grammys having struggled to pick the right winners in the past, I personally think they got most of the awards right this year.
