The literal definition of cross country is, “a sport in which teams and individuals run races on outdoor, natural terrains”, but what really is cross country? Most cross country runners train year-round to prepare for their races. They spend countless hours running every week, pushing their body to insane limits. In order to do this, a good mindset is needed. You need to be able to wake up early, get off your phone, and go run. A good mindset in races is also very important. You need to be able to push yourself when you’re tired and feel like quitting. Our St. Charles West girls cross country team showed these characteristics by winning state last year. We won by 63 points, 24 points more than the last state champions in 1998.
