As the school year kicks off, the three time state champion girls cross country team is training harder than ever. In the past the team has cruised to easy victories, but this year they face tough competition from Herculaneum High School. Senior runner Miley Jackson says, “We’ll definitely have a lot of competition this year but I trust the work ethic of our team.
As the team wrapped up their first week of practice, they faced an unexpected challenge. Senior Emily Finley tore her hip from overuse and is most likely out for the remainder of the season. Senior runner Melaina Beilsmith says, “It’s hard because it eliminates one of our main girls, but we’re glad she’s still there to support us even if she can’t run.” The team’s goal of winning a fourth consecutive state championship has not changed, but it will require a lot of hard work.
