Sophomore Annabelle Prost cheeiring with the Dance n Drill team

Here at St. Charles West, we have a tiny but mighty Dance Team! It consists of six girls: freshmen – Melaina Beilsmith and Gabi Matthews, sophomores – Kleyton Crate and Annabelle Prost, junior – Kate Matthews, and our senior captain – Ella Smith. They are coached by Ms. Lindsay Colbert, it’s her second year with this team.

This year the girls have competed in the Lindbergh competition and the Fort Zumwalt North competition. At Lindbergh their Precision Jazz routine placed second, and their Queen themed Mix routine achieved third. They spent the time in between the two competitions cleaning the dances, working on technique and performing at basketball games. Because of their hard work they placed first in Precision Jazz and second in Mix at the next competition.

Their next big goal is to place first for both routines and first overall at State on February 24th and 25th. In addition to their group dances, they have two dancers competing solos. Kleyton Crate and Ella Smith both choreographed their solos on their own and did a great job at the FZN competition and will do the same at State! “I’m super excited to be spending a weekend with the team! This is my first time going to State in Kansas City so I can’t wait for all of us to bond as our season ends!” said Crate. Their task has been made a bit more difficult since Kate Matthews has been injured and put in a boot for the past two weeks and will possibly get surgery later on.

The team has been working extra hard to have a back up plan in case she won’t be able to perform with them at State. We asked how Matthews was feeling about it all.

“I’m so excited to watch my girls take the floor and absolutely dominate. This ear has been a lot of work and I can’t wait to see it pay off. I love them all so much and can’t wait to spend that much time together,” says Matthews.

We love hearing all the positivity this team has and can’t wait to see how their season will end. After State, be ready to come support and watch the Dance Team’s Variety Show on March 15th and 16th!
