Homecoming is something many students love to attend. This year though, there is a new policy of students needing 90% attendance this year.
The new policy has left many students wondering how it will affect their likelihood of going this year. With students backing up the finance office just to get a ticket; many of them were nervous they might not be allowed to go.
Assistant principal, Dereck Guilstorf, was asked his opinion on what the impact will be on attendance at homecoming this year. He shared that he has seen more motivation from students to keep that 90% attendance rate in order to go to homecoming.
“I’ve seen more kids focused on their attendance with that motivation wanting to go to homecoming”, said Guilstorf. “More kids bring in doctor notes where I think previously they didn’t really care about getting that doctor’s note before.” Guilstorf encourages students to keep this attitude in order to attend these events. When asked if this policy would be here to stay for years to come, Guilstorf’s response was fairly simple: “I wouldn’t be shocked if it stayed in place for years to come”. Guilstorf also said that fun things are a privilege and that students should take care of business so they can attend these events in the future.
