Vivian Joyce is well known around school for her cheerful but also driven attitude. Joyce is recognized for her involvement at St. Charles West where she is one of the presidents of the competitive speech and debate team, the treasurer for National Honors Society, a leader for Welcome Ambassadors, a member of Renaissance, and on the varsity cheer team as well as Maroon and White, the competition cheer team.
Joyce has been on the West cheer team since freshman year, this year she is a captain on the varsity team. “When we won first place at the 2024 Kansas City Regional competition, everyone just burst into tears and started hugging each other because we did not expect to win,” Joyce said about her favorite cheer memories. In 2024, the competition cheer team placed 2nd at St. Louis Regionals, 1st at Kansas City Regionals and 3rd at State.
Besides cheer, a lot of Joyce’s time revolves around the French language. “Outside of school, I spend time listening to Angèle (a French singer), practicing my language skills and keeping my Duolingo streak alive.” Joyce said.
“Vivian is the student that all teachers go to for help. She is the perpetual underachiever of overachieving. She will always try to outdo herself.” Mrs. Delaney, the St. Charles West French teacher said.
Joyce aims to continue her passion of helping others, “After high school, I plan to attend college to become a high school English or French teacher—and maybe even come back and teach at West someday.” Joyce said.
